Contemporary world has presented new, challenging and growing complexities that require educational approaches that take account of this reality. The fragmentation of knowledge, the lack of educational opportunities, social, political and ideological polarisations increase the risk of crises, conflicts and discrimination that could jeopardise a more harmonious, cooperative and peaceful future.Schools face the challenge to adapt to the particularities of the new generations and to awaken the interest of children and young people in knowledge. Today's young people are the first generation in history with a lower IQ than the previous one. This global panorama has required current and future generations to develop new skills and a new way of articulating scientific and cultural knowledge.

The CEAEC Holotheca has promoted complementary scientific and cultural activities for cognitive and socio-emotional development, through experimental practices using artifacts of knowledge from various collections. The Young Researcher programme initiative consists of free thematic workshops for children and young people, to provide practical and experiential learning of the basic concepts of a particular area of knowledge. Each workshop is connected to one or more specific collections. Here are some examples of workshops and one of the related collections:

- Reading Workshop - Library (book collections).
- Cosmology Workshop – “Astronomytheca” (collections of instruments for observing the sky).
- Biodiversity Workshop – “Shelltheca” (shell collection).
- Life Stories Workshops – “Biographtheca” (collection of biographies).
- Sequential Art Workshop – “Comicstheca” (collection of comic books).
- Origami Workshop – “Nippotheca” (collection of Japanese objects).
- Curiosities Workshop – “Surprisingtheca” (collection of remarkable, unexpected, surprising and original items).

Participants are encouraged to share experiences, perceptions and ideas provided by the practices with the artifacts of knowledge, expanding the understanding of the entire group. These workshops stimulate the development of mental attributes, expanding cognition based on the scientific and cultural content behind the collections selected from the archive.

The effects observed include an increased taste for knowledge, interest in research and curiosity to learn more. The Programme contributes most directly to SDG 4 and SDG 16, and with a positive impact also on SDG 11 by encouraging the recognition of territory's cultural production as a basis for developing new knowledge and action perspectives.

Building a more inclusive, peaceful society of the future, one that allows people to reach their full potential in favour of themselves and others, requires new ways of stimulating a taste for and autonomy in the search for broader knowledge. The Young Researchers Programme is a good example of how it is possible to develop these capacities with autonomy and investigative motivation for new discoveries.

■必要なリソース

ネットワーク: We are interested in exchanging experiences with people and institutions interested in actions that promote the expansion of self-knowledge and personal worldview.

■展開したい地域

We would like to extend the initiatives of the Young Researcher Programme to more educational institutions, museums and cultural centres interested in promoting a culture of discovery and a taste for knowledge among children and young people.

We want to improve and expand our infrastructure so that partner institutions can replicate these actions in other spaces, including other regions of Brazil and countries in South America, Asia and Africa, increasing the number of people impacted and benefited, contributing to the expansion of the culture of peace on the planet through cognitive and socio-emotional self-development in groups.

■共創を希望する方々

We actively build partnerships with local government and institutions to promote culture and education within communities, based on volunteerism. These collaborations have produced cultural exhibitions, international bookfairs and institutional visits to the Holotheca. We want to collaborate with partners who have similar objectives, such as national and international cultural and educational institutions, particularly cultural centres, museums, schools and libraries.

■大阪・関西万博テーマとの関わり

The Young Researcher Programme is committed to promoting a better future society through the expansion of self-knowledge.
