The FAO Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership is a multi-stakeholder initiative dedicated to improving the environmental sustainability of the livestock sector through harmonized methods, metrics, and data. FAO LEAP leads a coordinated global initiative to accelerate the sustainable development of livestock supply chains and to support coherent climate actions, while contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.

FAO LEAP collaborates with three major stakeholder groups: the private sector, FAO member countries, and non-governmental organizations.

FAO LEAP guidelines play an essential role in addressing the environmental impact of the livestock sector, while improving the efficiency and profitability of livestock supply chains. Our mission is to support the transition towards more sustainable agrifood systems by improving the environmental performance of livestock supply chains while ensuring social and economic viability.
Our goal is to build global consensus on science-based methodologies, indicators and databases for understanding the environmental performance of livestock supply chains in order to shape evidence-based policy measures and business strategies.
Hosted by FAO, the LEAP Partnership is founded on a voluntary and collaborative process between FAO and three main stakeholder groups, based on the principles of equity and balance of constituencies. These three stakeholder groups - the private sector, FAO member countries and non-governmental organizations -form the basis of this initiative.
